Alongside his impressive corporate track record, Jonathan has also contributed his skills to sports coaching for a number of New Zealand athletes and national teams. He was a team coach for the NZ Paralympic team at the 2015 IPC World Championships in Doha, and the 2016 Rio Paralympics and a team coach with at that time the largest-ever Athletics NZ team to compete at the 2019 Oceania Championships.
